So posts have been more then a little lacking as of late...just been really busy, which is a normal thing with three boys...but just being busy trying to be more in the moment with the boys as well. M and J have started two new clubs at the Youth Center, becoming official 4-H members ;) Those that have known J and M know how important 4-H was to both of us. Even though it's not the traditional 4-H club, I love that they are becoming involved in something that uses the curriculum and program put out by the Extension Service. They are participating in SOAR (an aviation club) and Lego Robotics. So Thursday and Friday for an hour after school they can't complain that they are bored...M is also doing Judo on Thursday's. Both of the older boys will be starting floor hockey soon, hopefully they note the conflicts I listed on the registration sheet so the boys can participate in all they are signed up for. If you are military and haven't checked out your Youth Center you really should, it's just not for daycare!
J has been extremely busy with his current job in the group, flying here and there for 5-7 days at a time. I think this was the first full weekend he wasn't flying off somewhere since the 1st of the year, maybe not...I should start writing on a calendar when he is here and when he isn't. Maybe I'll also keep track of the office hours he has been keeping as well, up before anyone else (which is a feat since lil' J is a super early riser...like 5am!) and lucky if he is home when the boys are going to bed. He has commented that he gets more done during those twilight hours then the normal business hours, no one to call or stop in to talk shop with him.
Unfortunately, even when J is home he has a Blackberry attached to his hip and receiving calls and emails regarding areas his office in charge of. Also, due to point in his career he is, he has been really trying to get ACSC in correspondence completed...which he has to start over since he was in the process of doing it when the AF has decided to change the program a bit and have more video/web based modules. Had we not moved, and had he not had to focus on relearning and being retrained in the C21 he might have gotten the program done before the new course had been rolled out....such is life.
I don't want to come off as a complainer too much, but just really want to keep it real. I have heard more then once, "You knew you were marrying a military member, that this was going to be your life", but there is no way when we were saying those vows what it really is going to be like. Heck, those that signed on the dotted line don't always know what their career is going to be once they sign the contract, so how can a spouse really know what to expect? Really nothing prepares you for what being a military spouse is like whether you were raised a military "brat", were previously military yourself, or have received advice from other military spouses along the way...everyone has a journey, not all of them are the same. I've found the journey is more fun and not as difficult though when you have an understanding partner and some friends to share it with.
Well the boys are home, and I am hosting the Squadron "Coffee" tomorrow so I better get my butt in gear!
