6 Months at "Home"

So we have hit that 6 month mark, that point in a military families life that you really start feeling "at home"...which if you are doing a special assignment like a school you are usually only there for a year...sad to think you could spend half your time being stationed somewhere just being busy settling into a routine. Some might think that 6 months seems too long, but after talking to other spouses and having personally moved 8 times I think it checks out. Figuring it takes at least a month to unpack and organize all the rooms, getting the kids into their routine of school and activities, figuring out how to get from point A to point B in the local area, easing into making new friends, trying to find time for working out, etc. At the six month point I think I have it all balanced, well maybe.

So to celebrate getting into the 6 month groove I finally tackled a project that has been bothering me since day 1 and the TV was unpacked. Sure I could have done it right away, but there seemed to be other pressing issues...laundry, food to be prepared, taking kids from point a to b, and making sure the DVR never got filled up...you know priorities! Well more like I finally gave up looking for the goo remover and then also remembered to grab some at the BX when I was strolling down the aisles.

Back to the problem I guess...The cord was taped to the TV...the front center of the TV...and it left a smudgy gooey mess. I also noticed that someone decided to take a crayon to the molding as well. I had tried the screen cleaner and the Magically Mr Clean, but neither got the grubby marks off. So I grabbed this stuff from the BX:

And it worked like a charm. Very little elbow grease was needed. It isn't the best smelling stuff, I'm sure it is laced with horrible chemicals...so I washed off the area was done as well.

It still isn't perfect, you can see a slight shadow when super close like in the picture, but at least from the couches you don't see it anymore...and it only took six months!

What makes you feel settled?
