Cleaning House and Scoring Deals

So since we have moved here I have been trying to keep the "extra stuff" from taking over the house. Whether it's the clothing and toys the boys have grown out of, decor that just isn't quite fitting in anymore, or just stuff that doesn't have a home and is rarely touched. Back at Travis I used Bookoo.com to unload a lot of the clutter that we didn't want to move, but found out once here that not that many people use bookoo, but instead use a specific yard sale site on FaceBook. It is a closed group and part of the "rules" is that you have to have base access...which is kind of nice, I got burned more then once in CA when people couldn't pick up at my house. Meeting off base also ate up a lot of time when we were trying to pack, load and get signed out of the house. It was a great resource, but it really wasn't  always a pleasant experience. I ended up waiting more then once for 20 minutes at the visitor center with a $5 item only to finally getting a text that they can't meet or they changed their mind.

I have also purchased a lot of things off of yard sale sites. Just the other day I managed to pick up 24 pieces of clothes for the oldest, for just $24...and they were Abercrombie & Fitch, Aeropostale, Under Armour, and Levi...ya, the good stuff! It all was in good shape, most only worn a couple of times. It has been extremely helpful since I have been striking out for the most part at my normal shopping hot spots for M and it seems like he grew a foot over Christmas vacation...and it is only going to get worse, so I hear, so I really don't want to spend a fortune to keep the kid in clothes either. Hopefully by scoring this lot of clothes will stand the test of time as well and can be worn by at least one of the other boys if not both. For now I will stash them away, probably only for a couple of months, in a Space Bag under his bed.

I have even pick out items for the boys to spend their allowance money on. Someone was selling a bunch of the Star Wars 3 inch figures and so I took the boys over with their allowance money to pick out what they wanted. They were quite happy about getting 4 figures for the price of getting 1 at the store. I'm glad I can impress upon my boys the importance of finding good deals on things that you want. Being a little frugal for certain quality things allows me to spend more in other areas...like the grocery bill...maybe that's why and how these boys are growing so fast!

So what do you yard sale for? How do you find extra cash around the house?
