Travis Air Expo 2011-Saturday

So Saturday was the official start to the Air Expo. I was able to go down alone to help a friend out and decided to spend the whole day watching the show without kids...kind of a treat to have that time. I was also able to meet up and watch the show with a friend from MN that now lives in CA as well.

2011 Travis AFB Air Expo-Friday Practice

This past weekend we were busy doing various things with the Travis Air Expo. J had a big job and has been working for months getting his portion of responsibility taken care of. It was exciting for all of us to finally see all of his work come together and watch a wonderful show and and tour some of the displays. We got to take a sneak peek on Friday as they did a practice run through--and avoided the crazy crowds.

By going on Friday we also got front row seats to the Thunderbirds practice.

California Farmers Market

On the way back from the Sutter Gold Mine we stopped by one of the many Farmers Markets you can find in Ca. Some are permanent stands open year around and some are really just a guy selling out of the back of his truck. The one we chose to go to was a well established one that had a little of everything that is in season and also had wagons full of sweet corn.

We ended up getting a big sack of sweet corn, watermelon, and a honey dew. Everything was delicious!

Sutter Gold Mine Trip

One of our day adventures was out to the Sutter Gold Mine up by Sutter Creek and Amador City...for folks back home think Waldorf or New Richland sized. We had a little time to kill before our tour so we went back to Amador City and toured their main street.

They had a couple cute little shops I wouldn't mind stopping into again...these pics our of their outdoor decor. The shop took over 3 store fronts and second story...I could have stayed in them for hours looking at their stuff.

Mom spotted this peddle plane at one of the antique shops...she thought they had one of these at some point...this one was only going for $3999...a real deal ;p

Eventually we had to head back to catch our tour.

They had some equipment depicting the different ways the mine had been used over the years.

In all it was a good little trip...and we are glad that we got to go in. They are making plans to stop giving tours so that they can start mining for gold again since prices are so high.
