Day Two of Tahoe- Morning Fun

We started off the day by going into Tahoe and finding some breakfast at one of the local diners. We were able to eat right across from one of the entrances to the walk paths around the lake and so we enjoyed a scenic morning walk.

From there we went on a drive out to some of the scenic overlooks. We were planning on stopping at the waterfall stop, but ended up one stop earlier due to all the traffic going to the same location.

We hiked up the Mountain....

And peered across the ridge to the waterfall below. (Upper middle of the picture)

And took in this section of the lake.

From there we headed back to our resort and stopped at their Olympic Flame memorial.

We then decided to try to hike up the 4 mile trail that we had taken the cable car the day before. We didn't get too far before having to rest and then decided to turn around and hike back.

This guy really didn't like the hike...it was pretty steep even for being a regular path.

The Village from our vista we stopped at.

We hiked past the Olympic House, the place were all of the athletes from the 1960 Olympics came to eat at. It was closed due to the off season, but in the winter it is still being used as a dining and shopping venue.

Day One in Squaw Valley

After checking into our wonderful room (and getting over how wonderful it was) we headed for a quick lunch of pizza. The great thing about staying at The Village is that there a ton of options for eating, we chose pizza since it pleases everyone.

The food was delicious and they had some great games to play with while we waited.

We then headed up to High camp via the cable car...much easier they the 4 mile hike up the hill that climbs 2000 feet.

We decided to hike around and try to find some snow...yes snow in September left over from the following year!

N was born in NJ and was only a couple months old when we had snow, so this really was the first time he has seen snow...he called it ice...can't blame him, it wasn't that pretty powder you think of.

We then headed to the zip line where the boys took turns going for a ride.

We hit the pool and hot tub for an hour and then headed back down to find some supper.

Just in awe of the terrain!

This guy is still talking about how fun the zip line was!

Weekend Trip To Squaw Valley-Our Splendid Room

So this past weekend we headed up to the Lake Tahoe area and stayed at Squaw Valley USA. Squaw Valley was the location of the 1960 Winter Olympics. Hosting these Olympics was pivotal, it was the first televised Olympics and it wasn't being hosted by a European country. Another interesting component was that all athletes were housed on the premises and all ate together (photo of complex to come). Now this resort has become its own little village with restaurants and shops and is a huge ski getaway. During the summer they have a ton of activities as well, but the prices on the rooms are slashed so we booked a room and headed up. When we entered our room we relaxed they gave us a major upgrade!

As we entered

Our suite was on the top floor with a balcony.

We were suppose to be in a king bed room with a sofa sleeper and mini fridge...but didn't mind having more space and all the nice amenities ;)

The New Baby

So J has had his motorcycle license for over a year and this past week he went out and picked out his new baby. Initials are HD, 570lbs, and 85 inches. For shower gifts we will be registering at Harley Davidson and Cycle Gear.

The bike has gained a spot of honor in the garage. Plans are being made to be able to also get my van back in before the rainy season starts again.

Flashback to San Fran

With all the commotion of having grandparents here, a short "trip" for J, soccer starting, and school starting these pics were long forgotten on the memory card.  Before taking the grandparents to the airport we bummed around San Fran a little.

The boys had fun playing a little in the sand...

And we went into little Italy and found a restaurant to eat lunch at.

While waiting for our food we became friends with a pigeon...aka flying rat.

We had a great time adventuring with my parents and will need to start making a new list of things to go see for our next visitors.
